First UKAS-accredited weigh pad calibration aligned to the DVSA Consolidated Code of Practice 

Micro Weighing Solutions (MWS), the independent UK manufacturer of industrial weighing equipment and calibration services, has announced that it is now offering UKAS-accredited calibration for weigh pads, following formal authorisation and the issue of its updated UKAS schedule earlier this year. 

As a major player in the supply of vehicle weighing pads, the new service responds to growing regulatory clarity and customer demand following the release of the VCA requirements and DVSA Consolidated Code of Practice in March 2024, which references UKAS-accredited calibration as part of its requirements. UKAS calibration provides a regulated, audited and fully traceable process, giving operators confidence that weigh pad calibration meets both compliance and enforcement expectations. 

MWS calibrates weigh pads in accordance with the DVSA Consolidated Code of Practice, NAWI principles and relevant sections of BS EN 45501. The UKAS-accredited process includes linearity, eccentricity and repeatability testing, uncertainty calculation, and consideration of tilt and gradient effects, applying NAWI-style principles specifically to weigh pad calibration. 

MWS is the first company whose UKAS scope explicitly references calibration to the DVSA Consolidated Code of Practice for weigh pads, addressing a gap in the market where providers either lacked UKAS accreditation or did not follow DVSA-aligned procedures.

Developing this service meant applying NAWI-style calculations to a force-based calibration process and achieving the uncertainty levels needed for enforcement use. It was technically demanding, but it has resulted in a calibration process that is robust, repeatable and defensible.”
